The concept of “going concern” in accounting emphasizes that a business must persist into the future to retain its value. This principle signifies that present value already incorporates expectations of future value; thus, a business facing uncertainty about its future will inevitably diminish in present value. It highlights the interconnectedness of present and future values, suggesting that they cannot be regarded in isolation. All stocks traded on the stock market are priced based on their anticipated future value. In essence, we trade on a future that has yet to materialize. Consequently, determining how far into the future to evaluate is a critical factor in making investment decisions. Offline retailers are going to be ruined. People assume the cause might be Internet commerce. But if you analyze the data, it doesn't make sense. In the U.S., online sales have grown more than 30-fold over the past two decades, but Internet shopping accounts for only 11% of total consumer sales. According to U.S. government statistics, Americans spend most of their income on SERVICES, NOT GOODS. This means they purchase a car rental service instead of possessing a car, a cloud service instead of having computer software and hard drives, and a fresh food delivery service every morning instead of buying the ingredients for food. It also means that people avoid buying manufactured or harvested goods, but want to buy the servitization goods in the categories of manufacturing and agriculture. One of the most important essentials of business is cognitive dissonance resolution. When researching who watches the Ford Motor Company commercials the most, the results are not potential customers but purchased customers. They want to confirm that their decisions were right or to receive continuous support after their purchases. Because we can never go back to the past, getting confirmation and support from someone makes us easy and comfortable beyond our regrets. So the company's strategy should focus on repurchasing the existing customers, not the new ones. In many business cases, businessmen should avoid assumptions or predictions.
